SXSW Magic: Cristo Fernández & the Corina Premiere

Updated: Mar 21

Meeting Cristo Fernández (yes, he was as incredible as you had hoped)

If you’ve ever wondered if Cristo Fernández is as joyful and full of life as Dani Rojas... let me confirm: yes, yes, and absolutely yes. From the second he walked into the room, it was clear—this guy radiates the same energy we all fell in love with on Ted Lasso.

Charismatic, kind, and just genuinely pumped to be in Austin for SXSW 2025, he was the ultimate highlight of an already star-studded week.

Corina – the film that stole the show

A quirky and auspicious debut feature by Mexican writer-director Urzula Barba Hopfner. Not only was the movie a hit, but it also took home the SXSW 2025 Audience Award in the Global section—a massive win for an already electric night at Violet Crown, Austin, Texas.

Corina is the kind of indie film that sneaks up on you and knocks you flat with its heart, humor, and unexpected depth.

The film’s cast is stacked with talent, featuring Naian González Norvind, Cristo Fernández (Ted Lasso’s Dani Rojas, in case you needed reminding) & Carolina Politi. But let’s not forget the powerhouse crew behind Corina—the ones who made this incredible film happen. Director Urzula Barba Hopfner, alongside producers Iván López-Barba, Carlo\s Hernández, and Claudia López Barba, brought this vision to life in a way that left audiences captivated.

No wonder Corina took home the SXSW Audience Award—the people have spoken, and they LOVED it. You'll love it, too.

Maybe it’s the magic of Austin, or the way SXSW throws you into the kind of moments where you unexpectedly find yourself bonding with the very creators you’ve admired from afar. Whatever it is, SXSW always leaves me completely awed by the energy and sparkle it brings into my life. It will always be my favorite festival to shoot, and this year was no exception.

And speaking of what’s next...

Ted Lasso season 4 is coming!

Yes, it’s happening! TED LASSO SEASON 4 IS ON THE WAY. While Apple TV+ is keeping the details under wraps, the buzz is real. Will AFC Richmond rise again? Is Ted coming back from Kansas? Will Dani Rojas score the game-winning goal in the World Cup?! (Okay, that last one’s just my personal hope.)

One thing is certain—if Cristo Fernández is in the cast, we are READY.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here rewatching Ted Lasso until Season 4 drops and waiting to see where I can stream Corina!

Corina is life. Cristo is life. SXSW is life. (And fútbol is life, of course.) I really restrained myself from saying that to him in person—though he did mention he actually likes when people “fútbol is life” him... so, if you ever get the chance, take it!
